Reviews May 13, 2008 Artscope Magazine Tidal Pools and Stormy Skies "Nestled in the lobby of the Caturano Vitale accounting firm in Charlestown, Boston, the Caturano Vitale Art Gallery offers art in an unexpected place. Its summer show, Outside|Inside, juxtaposes rough-hewn, Turneresque oil paintings of sea, sky, and storm by Deborah Howard with detailed and intimate interior scenes of table settings by Laura Tryon Jennings. With work bordering on abstract expressionism, Howard finds inspiration from the expressionist artists of the 20th century. Her goal is to "communicate a feeing with the viewer." No wonder the mercurial weather and fluid landscape of coastal New England has so often beckoned this Massachusetts based artist. She studies the landscape around her, from the horizon inward. Howard takes notes of the colors, movements, and moods she sees before transporting these bare elements onto canvas. Jennings' playful images often feature aerial views of coffee mugs and half eaten bowls of cereal, a close study of evidence of domestic presence." www.artscopemagazine.com
